See, I own a 32gb one( new itouch 2G) and i am loving it!
Only wish I had more space, so the only prob with ipod touch is that you don’t have models over 32 gb even with 2nd gen.
I bought it at the time when it was newly launched, so its been over 6 months and I never had any problem with Sound, display, games or net all works fine for me.
